The Film Academy of Miroslav Ondříček (FAMO) in Písek is a cornerstone of Czech film education, dedicated to cultivating the next generation of creative talent. Established in 2004, FAMO combines a rich tradition with modern approaches to filmmaking, offering bachelor’s and master’s programs that empower students to turn their artistic visions into reality.
At FAMO, education revolves around a blend of rigorous theory and intensive practice. Students specialize in one of eight disciplines, including directing, cinematography, and production, and are mentored by accomplished professionals from the film, television, and media industries. These experts, often award-winning creators, ensure that students not only master technical skills but also develop their unique artistic voice.
Practical film production is at the core of FAMO’s curriculum. From their first semester, students create projects that hone their craft, culminating in a graduation film that serves as their professional calling card.
