The workshop is designed to familiarize cinematographers and others with the issues involved when shooting shots or scenes that involve visual effects.  The lecture will describe different types of visual effects shots and show examples of what information is needed in order to prepare for these shots using scenes from projects. the lecturer has worked on.



Weingartner’s cinematography can be seen, if not recognized, in Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception, the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight films, the G.I. Joe films, the last three Hunger Games films, the last two Twilight films, The Tourist, and one shot in Solo: A Star Wars Story, among others.

Weingartner is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Visual Effects Branch, the International Cinematographers Guild, and the Visual Effects Society. He has served for six years on the AMPAS Science-Technology Awards Committee, as a juror at Camerimage, and as a technology judge for Cinegear.

This lab session will be held at Studio 727 for a maximum of 16 people. This lab is primarily for cinematographers and Visual Effects and Digital Effects people. The lab will be held in a studio (dress accordingly)  We will demonstrate and experiment with:

Line-up of actor shots on greenscreen stage to background plates.   

Matching camera angles and lighting       


Adjusting the scale of actors in a scene 

Making someone look miniature Making someone look larger than life     

We will demonstrate use of motion control for “twinning” – one actor playing two roles. Time permitting, we will discuss technical aspects of shooting foregrounds & backgrounds for cars.


- theoretical preparations; public master class with Mark H. Weingartner. After the master class there will be a private meeting with Mark and participants of workshop.

How much does it cost?

The workshop costs 300 Eur (250 Eur for students).

We accept bank transfer and paypal. We will send you an invoice and after the payment you will get the accreditation.

How long will be the workshop?

The all-day workshop will occur from March 20-22, 2019.
