Marcin Łuczaj "Talent Spotter of Young Auter Cinema"

Marcin Łuczaj, former Warsaw Film Festival  and ZUBROFFKA International Short Film Festival programmer, works for New Europe Film Sales, a Warsaw-based sales agency for both features and shorts - a company which represented films premiered at Berlinale, Venice or Cannes.

Marcin Łuczaj graduated in Film & Media Studies from the University of Lodz and in Cultural Studies from the University of Warsaw. For several years he had been working as short and feature film programmer at Warsaw Film Festival and the cult ŻUBROFFKA Short Film Festival and acted as guest curator for various international film festivals around the world.

Marcin also worked as production manager at Koi Studio, a Warsaw-based production company, and for the Ad Arte Foundation, where he managed short film distribution in Polish cinemas (World Shorts, Future Shorts) and international promotion of Polish shorts.

From 2016 he works for New Europe Film Sales, a Warsaw-based sales agency for both features and shorts, where he is responsible for feature film acquisitions and for the short film catalogue. Jan Naszewski, the the owner of FNE, said “Marcin is a great addition to our team. His network and taste are invaluable in the current competitive market. I am sure he will also fit the company culture of New Europe focused on close relationships with filmmakers and tracking new talents.”

Film New Europe Sales (FNE) is a boutique sales company based in Warsaw, founded in 2010 by Jan Naszewski working exclusively with features and animations. The company works with international content and sells it to all rights, theatrical, TV and VOD buyers across the world. We are proud of our small, carefully-selected catalogue of feature films and shorts. Each one of them is very precious for us. Our films regularly open at key festivals, such as Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Toronto, Sundance, Rotterdam, Karlovy Vary and Tribeca and get worldwide distribution.

“We do edgy and crazy films that we know won’t always do the numbers. But great reviews, huge festival runs… for us, if the filmmaker is happy, that’s a success.”

FNE represented films directors as Ruben Östlund (his short film Incident by a Bank), Joanna Kos-Krauze & Krzysztof Krauze (theri film from 2015 - Papusza), Mark Cousins (his documentary I am Belfast from 2015) among others.

"We know what is a good slot in a festival. We know the dynamics of the market – whether it’s better to premiere first or second weekend. A big festival can kill a film with a bad slot."

The company’s catalogue includes the Icelandic Rams (Prix Un Certain Regard in Cannes in 2015), Swedish-Polish debut The Here After (Directors’ Fortnight 2015) as well as 9 Berlinale titles including the 2016 Silver Bear winner United States of Love and Summer 1993 (Generation Grand Prix and Best First Feature), Winter Brothers (Locarno winner) and Under the Tree (Venice/TIFF).

NEFS recently joined forces with Oscar-winning producer Ewa Puszczyńska (Ida, Cold War) and Klaudia Śmieja (High Life, Gareth Jones) and created NEM.corp – production company focused on developing and co-producing projects of both local and international talents.
