The Lab

RIFF's Transatlantic Talent Lab capitalizes on the geographical location of Iceland resting between Europe and North- America as an ideal meeting point for young filmmakers from across the globe. Here you'll connect with seasoned professionals in the film industry as well as other aspiring filmmakers as you receive advice and share thoughts about making the jump from short films to full-length features.

The Crew
Distinguished film-industry professionals such as the directors Dario Argento, Cédomir Kolar, Jim Jarmusch, Milos Forman, Ulrich Thomsen, BélaTarr, Lone Scherfig, Paprika Steen, Richie O'Donnell, James Marsh, Arto Halonen, Baltasar Kormákur, João Pedro Rodrigues, Jessica Hausner, Giorgos Lanthimos, director and editor Valdis Oskarsdottir, director and festival consultant Peter Wintonick, and Toronto International Film Festival co-director Cameron Bailey have all conducted panel discussions for previous Talent Lab participants. Geoffrey Gilmore, the director of Tribeca Film Festival was chairwoman of the International Jury for RIFF 2012.

The Process
The threefold motto of RIFF “Innovation, Networking, Dialogue” is perfectly manifested in the activities of the Talent Lab: the Lab highlights and promotes the innovative works of young filmmakers, fosters and facilitates the networking necessary to promote their work to buyers and distributors, and gives them an opportunity to participate in a dialogue and exchange ideas and thoughts with young people from across the World.

The Talent Lab will last for four action packed days, October 1st - 5th 2013, during which you will participate in masterclasses and discussions with well established names in the film industry. Education and entertainment will go hand in hand. The schedule is stuffed with great films, workshops, events and seminars.
