Hervé Schneid

The Rhythm of the Scene

For him editing is similar to the human adventure: "Editing is about feeding your mind with their inputs, following your intuition and your feelings, trying and keeping a fresh eye, and always thinking that rules are made to be broken."
Apart from work with Jeunet Hervé Schneid edited Lars von Trier's Europa (1991), an adaptation of Virginia Woolf's Orlando (1992) made by Sally Porter, experimental poems Kinogamma One and Kinogamma Two (2008) and crime thriller Mesrine: Public Enemy No. 1 (2008).

And his advice for fresh editors? – First you should be brave. Each film is a challenge, and you have to look for perfection each time. So you should make sure that you are trying everything you can, finding all options, finding the right line and not deviating. Also, listen to the unsaid. The interesting part of making a film is to listen to what is not said, to see what is in the frames, what is said without saying it.
